Psalms 107:24

Posted on 18 May at 15:14

“They see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.”

Psalm 107:24 (KJV) states:They see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.

Context:Psalm 107 is a psalm of thanksgiving and praise to God for His enduring love and deliverance. It is divided into four sections, each highlighting a different group of people who experienced God’s salvation. The psalmist encourages the redeemed to offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and declare God’s goodness.

Reflecting on God’s Works:In verse 24, the psalmist acknowledges that those who witness the works of the Lord and His wonders in the deep are astounded. This verse emphasises the greatness of God’s power and sovereignty over creation.

The Works of the Lord:The “works of the Lord” refer to God’s deeds, actions, and interventions in the lives of His people and in the world. Throughout the Bible, God is depicted as actively involved in His creation, demonstrating His power, love, and faithfulness through miraculous signs, deliverance, and provision.

His Wonders in the Deep:The “deep” symbolises the depths of the sea or the vastness of the waters. It represents challenging and difficult situations that can be overwhelming or seemingly impossible to overcome. The psalmist acknowledges that even in the midst of these deep and troubled waters, God’s wonders can be seen. It highlights God’s ability to work miracles and display His power in the most unexpected places.

Application:Psalm 107:24 encourages believers to have faith and trust in God’s ability to work in any situation, no matter how difficult or daunting it may appear. It reminds us to keep our eyes open and be attentive to the works of the Lord in our lives and the world around us. When we recognise God’s wonders in the deep, we can respond with awe, gratitude, and praise.

Reflect on times when God has shown His power, faithfulness, or provision in unexpected or challenging circumstances. Take a moment to thank Him for His wonders in the deep and express your trust in His continued presence and guidance.
