“He hath made his wonderful works to be remembered: the LORD is gracious and full of compassion.”

Context:Psalm 111 is a hymn of praise and thanksgiving to God for His great works and faithfulness. It begins with a call to give thanks to the Lord and extols His character, righteousness, and the wonders He has done. In verse 4, the psalmist focuses on God’s wonderful works and highlights His graciousness and compassion.

The psalmist acknowledges that God has made His wonderful works to be remembered. Throughout the Bible, we see God’s marvelous acts displayed in creation, history, and His interactions with humanity. From the creation of the world to the deliverance of His people from Egypt, the Lord has consistently demonstrated His power, wisdom, and love through His works.

The Wonderful Works of God:The psalmist acknowledges that God has made His wonderful works to be remembered. Throughout the Bible, we see God’s marvelous acts displayed in creation, history, and His interactions with humanity. From the creation of the world to the deliverance of His people from Egypt, the Lord has consistently demonstrated His power, wisdom, and love through His works.

Remembrance:The psalmist emphasizes the importance of remembering God’s wonderful works. It is essential to recall and reflect on what God has done in our lives and in the world. Remembering His faithfulness strengthens our faith, encourages our hearts, and helps us to remain steadfast in times of difficulty. It also enables us to share the testimony of His works with others, pointing them towards God’s greatness.

The Graciousness and Compassion of God:The psalmist declares that the Lord is gracious and full of compassion. God’s grace is His undeserved favour towards us. Despite our shortcomings and failures, He extends His love, mercy, and forgiveness. His compassion refers to His deep empathy and tender care for His creation. God’s graciousness and compassion are seen in His patience, long-suffering, and willingness to forgive and restore us when we repent.

  • c. Sharing God’s Works:Share your testimonies of God’s grace and compassion with others. It can be a powerful encouragement and a means of pointing people to the goodness of God.
  • d. Reflecting God’s Graciousness and Compassion:As recipients of God’s grace and compassion, let us extend the same love, forgiveness, and empathy towards others. Show kindness and compassion to those around you, imitating the character of our Heavenly Father.
