Psalms 119:46

Posted on 18 May at 15:13

“I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed.”

Context:Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible and is known for its focus on the importance and beauty of God’s Word. It is an acrostic psalm, consisting of twenty-two stanzas, each starting with a different letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This verse is found in the stanza associated with the Hebrew letter “Mem.”

God’s Testimonies:In this verse, the psalmist expresses a commitment to speak about God’s testimonies. The “testimonies” refer to God’s revealed truth, His Word, and His commands. Throughout the psalm, the psalmist emphasizes the value and significance of God’s Word in his life.

Speaking Before Kings:The psalmist declares his intention to proclaim God’s testimonies even before kings. In ancient times, kings held positions of power and authority. By expressing his willingness to speak of God’s testimonies before kings, the psalmist reveals his determination to share God’s truth boldly, regardless of the audience or their status.

Unashamed:The psalmist’s resolve to speak before kings is accompanied by a statement of confidence. He declares that he will not be ashamed. This shows his unwavering faith and trust in God’s Word. He is unafraid of potential consequences or opposition that may arise from speaking truthfully about God’s testimonies.

Application for Believers:This verse challenges believers to uphold God’s Word fearlessly and without shame. It encourages them to boldly share the truth of God’s testimonies in all circumstances, regardless of societal pressures or the disapproval of influential individuals. It reminds us that our allegiance is to God and His Word, and we should not compromise our faith or be swayed by the opinions of others.

A Call to Evangelism:This verse also serves as a call to evangelism. As followers of Christ, we are called to share the gospel with others, including those in positions of influence. The psalmist’s determination to speak before kings should inspire us to proclaim God’s truth boldly, knowing that our message has the power to transform lives.

Courage and Confidence:Psalm 119:46 encourages believers to cultivate courage and confidence in sharing their faith. The psalmist’s assurance that he will not be ashamed demonstrates the strength and assurance that comes from a deep relationship with God and a thorough understanding of His Word.

In conclusion, Psalm 119:46 (KJV) expresses the psalmist’s commitment to speak of God’s testimonies before kings without shame. It encourages believers to boldly proclaim God’s truth, regardless of the audience or their position. This verse serves as a reminder to uphold God’s Word fearlessly, to share the gospel boldly, and to trust in God’s faithfulness, knowing that He is with us as we speak on His behalf.
