“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.”

1. Context:Psalm 143 is attributed to David and is classified as a psalm of lament. In this psalm, David finds himself in a distressing situation and cries out to God for help and guidance.

2. Seeking God’s Lovingkindness: The verse begins with a plea from David, asking God to make him hear His lovingkindness in the morning. This demonstrates David’s desire for a fresh encounter with God’s unfailing love and mercy. David recognizes that he needs to experience God’s lovingkindness to sustain him in his difficult circumstances.

3. Trust in God: David declares his trust in God by saying, “for in thee do I trust.” Despite his present troubles, David places his confidence in God. He acknowledges that God is the source of his hope and strength. Trusting in God allows us to rely on His faithfulness and power to guide us through life’s challenges.

4. Divine Guidance: David further implores God to make him know the way he should walk. He acknowledges his need for divine guidance and direction. In times of confusion or uncertainty, David seeks God’s wisdom to lead him on the right path. Recognizing our dependence on God’s guidance is crucial in navigating the complexities of life.

5. Lifting Up One’s Soul: The verse concludes with David stating, “for I lift up my soul unto thee.” This phrase denotes an act of surrender and devotion. David lifts up his innermost being, his soul, to God, signifying his complete reliance and submission. By surrendering his soul, David seeks God’s presence and intervention in his life.
