2 Chronicles 22:12

Posted on 18 May at 11:38

And he was with them hid in the house of God sixe yeeres, and Athaliah reigned ouer the land. 2 Chronicles 22:12 (KJV)

This verse is part of the account of the reign of Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram and the grandson of Jehoshaphat.

Ahaziah became king of Judah at the age of 22 after his father’s death.

However, his reign was short-lived and marked by wickedness and idolatry.

And he was hid in the house of God six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land.

This hiding took place during the time when Queen Athaliah, Ahaziah’s mother, reigned over the land.

Athaliah was an evil queen who sought to destroy the royal family and seize power for herself.

The fact that Joash was hidden in the house of God carries symbolic significance.

The house of God refers to the temple, which was a place of worship and God’s presence among His people.

This symbolizes God’s protection and provision for Joash, even in the midst of a dangerous and hostile situation.

Despite the chaos and wickedness that surrounded Joash, God remained faithful to His promise to David and preserved a remnant of the royal line.

By hiding Joash in the temple, God ensured the continuation of the Davidic lineage and the fulfillment of His plans and purposes.

Joash’s hiding in the house of God reminds us that when we face difficult and challenging circumstances, we can find refuge in God’s presence.

Just as God protected Joash, He is also able to protect and guide us through life’s trials.

Athaliah’s reign, although filled with wickedness, was ultimately under God’s control.

It serves as a reminder that no matter who holds positions of power, God is still in control and can work His purposes through any situation.

Ahaziah’s short and troubled reign, influenced by his mother’s evil ways, resulted in negative consequences for himself and the nation.

This serves as a warning to us about the destructive nature of sin and the importance of seeking righteousness in our lives.
