2 Chronicles 22 tells the tragic story of Ahaziah, the wicked king of Judah. After the death of his father Jehoram, Ahaziah becomes the next ruler of Judah. Ahaziah follows the evil ways of his father and his mother, Athaliah, who was the daughter of King Ahab of Israel.
Ahaziah allies himself with King Joram of Israel to fight against the Arameans. However, during the battle, both kings are wounded, and Ahaziah is forced to return to Jerusalem to recover. During his stay in Jerusalem, Ahaziah's wickedness continues as he seeks guidance from his mother and practices idolatry.
Meanwhile, Athaliah seizes the opportunity to take control of the kingdom of Judah. She orders the execution of all the royal heirs, including her own grandchildren, to secure her reign. However, one infant named Joash is rescued by his aunt Jehoshabeath and her husband Jehoiada the priest. They hide Joash in the temple for six years, protecting him from Athaliah's wrath.
