Jeremiah Chapter 23

Summery

Jeremiah 23 contains a message from God, addressing the corrupt leaders of Judah. It begins by denouncing the shepherds who have scattered and harmed God’s flock, promising to punish them for their wickedness. God vows to gather His remnant, the faithful ones, and appoint shepherds who will care for them.

The chapter then focuses on false prophets who have deceived the people with their lies and false visions. God declares His anger towards these prophets and warns of their punishment. He contrasts them with true prophets who speak God’s words faithfully, emphasizing the importance of discerning between the two.

God reveals His plan to send a righteous Branch, a future king from the line of David, who will reign with wisdom and justice. This promised ruler will be called “The Lord Our Righteousness.” Jeremiah assures that this future king will bring salvation and restore Judah to safety and prosperity.

The chapter concludes with God’s declaration against the false prophets who claim to speak for Him, promising to confront them and expose their lies. God emphasizes His omniscience, knowing the depths of every heart and intention, and warns that their false prophecies will lead to their own downfall.
