John Chapter 12

Summery

In John 12, Jesus is in Bethany, where Mary anoints His feet with costly ointment. Judas Iscariot, one of His disciples, objects, but Jesus defends Mary, saying she has done it in preparation for His burial. The chief priests also plan to kill Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead, as his resurrection had caused many to believe in Jesus.

The following day, Jesus enters Jerusalem, and the crowd welcomes Him with palm branches, shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is the King of Israel!" Jesus speaks about His impending death, comparing it to a grain of wheat that must die to bear much fruit. He predicts that those who love their life will lose it, while those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Jesus emphasizes that His Father will honor those who serve Him, and a voice from heaven confirms His words. Jesus states that He came to save the world and will draw all people to Himself. However, He warns that those who reject Him and His words will face judgment on the last day.

Despite performing many miracles, some people still struggle to believe in Jesus. This fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy is a result of their hearts being hardened. Jesus ultimately departs and hides Himself from them.
