A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

“A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty” pictures a wise person overcoming a great obstacle. In ancient times, a city with high walls seemed impossible to enter. Yet wisdom finds a way where strength fails. The wise person uses strategy, patience, and insight to succeed. The imagery depicts overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles through prudence and discernment, not mere power.

The second part, “casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof,” means wisdom destroys the very thing the enemy trusts. The city’s defenders rely on their walls and resources.
