Revelation 21 reveals a vision of a new heaven and a new earth, where God's dwelling place is among His people. John sees the holy city, the New Jerusalem, descending from heaven, adorned as a bride prepared for her husband. God's voice proclaims that He will dwell with His people, and there will be no more sorrow, pain, or death. God declares that He makes all things new.
John describes the magnificent details of the New Jerusalem, with its precious stones, golden streets, and gates adorned with pearls. The city has no need for the sun or the moon, for the glory of God illuminates it, and the Lamb is its light. The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.
God assures that nothing unclean will enter the city, only those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. There will be no temple, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city has no need for the sun or the moon, as the Lord God gives it light, and the nations will walk in its light.
The chapter ends with a reminder that the gates of the city will never be shut, and there will be no night there. The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it, and only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life will have access to this eternal and glorious dwelling place.
