Acts Chapter 7

Summery

Acts 7 recounts the powerful speech delivered by Stephen, a disciple of Jesus Christ, before the high priest and the council of Jewish leaders. In his defense against false accusations, Stephen passionately traces the history of Israel, emphasizing God's faithfulness and the people's repeated rejection of His chosen messengers. He highlights the experiences of Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and the prophets, underscoring the pattern of resistance and disobedience.

Stephen condemns the religious authorities, asserting that they have not only rejected Jesus as the Messiah but have also betrayed and murdered Him, just as their ancestors had mistreated the prophets. This sharp rebuke angers the council, and Stephen, filled with the Holy Spirit, sees a vision of Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Stephen boldly proclaims his vision, further enraging the religious leaders.

Incensed by Stephen's words, the council members drag him outside the city and proceed to stone him to death. Even in his final moments, Stephen exhibits remarkable faith and forgiveness, praying for his persecutors. As he breathes his last, Stephen commends his spirit to Jesus and falls asleep in death.
