Luke Chapter 17

Summery

Luke 17 captures several teachings of Jesus to his disciples and the Pharisees. He warns about the grave consequences of causing others to stumble and emphasizes the importance of forgiveness. Jesus teaches that if someone offends you and repents, you must forgive them repeatedly, even if they wrong you seven times in a day. The apostles request an increase in their faith, to which Jesus responds that faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.

Jesus tells a parable about a servant who, after working in the field, is not immediately served by his master. Jesus emphasizes the principle of humility and gratitude, teaching that servants should not expect special treatment but instead focus on serving faithfully. Jesus encounters ten lepers who beg for healing, and he instructs them to go and show themselves to the priests. As they go, they are cleansed. However, only one, a Samaritan, returns to thank Jesus, and he is commended for his faith.

Finally, when asked by the Pharisees about the coming of the Kingdom of God, Jesus explains that it will not come with observable signs but will be among them. He warns against false prophets and emphasizes the suddenness of his return, comparing it to the days of Noah and Lot.
