Acts 2 recounts the events of the day of Pentecost, when the disciples were gathered together in one place. Suddenly, there came a sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Tongues of fire appeared, resting on each of them, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. They began to speak in different languages as the Spirit gave them utterance.
A multitude of people from various nations had gathered in Jerusalem, and they were amazed to hear the disciples speaking in their own languages. They were perplexed and wondered how it was possible. Some mocked, suggesting that the disciples were drunk.
Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, stood up and addressed the crowd. He explained that what they were witnessing was the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy about the outpouring of the Spirit. Peter boldly proclaimed the message of Jesus, emphasizing His crucifixion, resurrection, and exaltation. He urged the people to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins.
About three thousand souls responded to Peter's preaching, believed in Jesus, and were baptized that day. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer.
