John Chapter 16

Summery

In John 16, Jesus continues His teachings to His disciples, preparing them for His impending departure. He assures them that although they will face persecution, their sorrow will turn into joy. Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, who will guide them in truth and convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.

Jesus explains that His departure is necessary for the Holy Spirit to come, as He will glorify Jesus and reveal the truth to the disciples. He speaks of His resurrection and the disciples' future joy in seeing Him again. Jesus uses the analogy of childbirth to illustrate the transition from sorrow to joy.

The disciples express their confusion, and Jesus addresses their concerns by assuring them that they can approach God the Father directly in His name and receive answers to their prayers. He emphasizes the disciples' future dependence on the Holy Spirit for guidance and revelation.

Jesus predicts His disciples' scattering in fear but promises that He will not be alone as the Father is with Him. He concludes by urging the disciples to take courage because He has overcome the world.
